With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I was in my tiny apartment in Toronto, living with my good friend and fellow musician, Kelly McMichael.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
I did, sadly, I had been accepted to the Windsor Fringe Festival to perform these songs as a one-woman, multi-media show and all 5 dates were cancelled, plus a show in Montreal and Guelph. Luckily, my recording engineer, Peter Elkas, and I had already motivated ourselves to get all recording done by March 1st, so the album was recorded before the pandemic begun. The chaos and mental impacts of it all, however, made the mixing, mastering and release process longer than anticipated, but I am proud to have found a way to complete it nonetheless by Spring 2021!
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
I did have a bit of a mental struggle in summer 2020 and had to move back to London ON to get some support from family. I took care of my mental health by starting medication, spending time in nature, going on lots of walks by the river here and trying to stay virtually connected to my friends. However, by Feb 2021, I was eager to do creative work again and I filled my February by signing up for the Record Production Month challenge, based out of Newfoundland, and I wrote and recorded 10 new demo songs for a future project. I'm currently making advances on next steps for that now.
How are dealing with the Covid third wave?
ugh. Not great, but the weather has been a so nice! I guess I am dealing with the third wave by trying to connect with people in the local music scene here in London, ON and developing my new songs.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
Ah, unfortunately, I have yet to play the wonderful Starlite! But hope to do so one day.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Thank you so much for supporting me, influencing my drive to make music and for coming to performances and buying the album. I'm really looking forward to showing you what new music I have in the works soon enough!
